Why a Compass?

Hi,
I have been quite some time now with the feeling that there's not a clear criterion in the world of ICT (Information and Communications Technology).
People seems not to understand that this is meant to be a tool, not a goal.
But what happens when we have been forced to use them in our lives?
That's what I'm intending to explain to make it clear how important is it to have a clear criterion of what we want to achieve through Technology.
